Where you stay changes the shape of a Granada trip more than almost any other decision. Across the city, hotels cluster in five areas, each trading a different set of advantages — the directory below is weighted towards Centro and the Albaicín, where most of Granada's rooms actually are. Centro, the flat historic core around the Cathedral, is the most practical base: the whole district crosses on foot in under 20 minutes, and the Alhambra minibus leaves from Gran Vía on the district's northern edge. The Albaicín, on the hill facing the fortress, has the rooftop terraces and Alhambra views the quarter is known for, but its lanes are steep and cobbled and tire quickly if you're carrying luggage. The Realejo, at the southern foot of the Alhambra hill, is quieter after dark than Centro or the Albaicín and puts you a ten-minute uphill walk from the Puerta de las Granadas gate, with Campo del Príncipe's free-tapas bars on your doorstep. A handful of hotels, including the Parador de Granada and the Hotel Alhambra Palace, sit on the Alhambra hill itself; that proximity is unmatched for an early start, but most guests take a taxi back up after an evening in the lower city. Further east, Sacromonte's cave-converted guesthouses sit a 20-minute walk from the Albaicín along the Camino del Sacromonte, close to the flamenco venues, and book out months ahead in summer.
Price follows category more than neighbourhood. Boutique hotels in restored palaces and Nasrid-era houses typically run somewhere in the €55–350 range a night, depending on season and room. Book the Alhambra tickets before the hotel, not after: timed-entry slots for the Nasrid Palaces sell out two to four weeks ahead between March and October, so build the trip around whichever date you can secure. Once you have that date, the Parador de Granada needs three to six months' notice for spring and summer, since it has only 40 rooms and no real competitor for what it offers. The city's boutique hotels book out two to three months ahead for Semana Santa and the last two weeks of August; three to four weeks is generally enough for a November–February visit. Winter also brings the shortest Alhambra queues, from December through February.
